DUWASA is the only Water Authority with the mandate of providing water services and sanitation services in urban area of the Dodoma Municipality. Provision of water supply and sanitation services in Tanzania is regulated by Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA). Also DUWASA has to promote the idea that having a comprehensive drinking water programme is basic need in protecting the health of Dodoma residents.
Water supply
The sole water supply source for Dodoma urban is ground water abstracted from 24 deep boreholes located at Makutupora basin. The basin is located about 35km from town center. The total length of water supply network is 393km where 47.983 km is the trunk main and 345.017km is the distribution network.
Sewerage system
The existing sewerage system has a total length of 81km which consists of trunk sewers (600mm to 1,100mm diameters) covering a distance of 24.3km and lateral sewers (150mm to 400mm) covering a distance of 56.7km. The trunk sewers have a maximum diameter of 1100mm and design flow rate of 3,672m3/h and capacity of serving 423,000 people.
