WaterWorX project: WOP Central Region Water Board
In Malawi VEI is partnering with Central Region Water Board (CRWB) since January 2022 under the WaterWorX programme. The WaterWorX programme Phase 2 will run until December 2026 and has the intention to continue until December 2030.
Out of the 5 Waterboards in Malawi, CRWB , founded in 1997, is the water board with the biggest service area.
CRWB is tasked with the responsibility of providing water supply and water-borne sanitation in towns and market centers in the central region except Lilongwe city.
They currently serve 28000 connections, which equals about 87% coverage rate in the schemes (areas) where water is supplied. However, in many schemes water is not yet provided and in the past 5 years the growth of the utility even stagnated due to lack of investment, cash flow constraints and increasing cost for production of water.
WaterWorX aims to support the Water Board in increasing its maturity level in operational performance and enhance and increase service in line with the Water Board Strategic plan 2021-2026.
Main processes addressed under the project include:

As part of the Malawi-wide country activities the subject of enabling environment will be addressed by stimulating collaboration and knowledge exchange between the water boards, branch-organisation and ministry.
